Women Leaders in Politics & Debate

Multitudes of women leaders have been making waves in politics and debate all across the world for decades. Not only have they shaped the past with their groundbreaking achievements and unwavering determination, but they are also reshaping the future to embrace innovative ideas and policies. From leading global movements to swaying national legislation, these women have excelled in their leadership without regard to age, gender and other societal boundaries. Let’s explore specific stories retelling how their leadership brought about change and inspiration to the new generation!

Starting with a global phenomenon, Malala Yousafzai is an activist for girls’ education who are previously fighting  poverty, war, and gender discrimination amongst other things. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at a ripe age of 17, making her the youngest-ever Nobel laureate. With her courage and determination, she fought for change against the Taliban and made herself a symbol of resilience and leadership on the political field. Furthermore, she is able to show us all that age is no barrier powerful enough to outweigh the will for change and equality. Her story is a reminder to the emerging generation that it is possible to excel without bounds if you invest completely in your passions and dreams.

Moving toward a more recent leadership pillar, Kamala Harris took her seat as the first female black and south asian Vice President of the United States. Starting as a lawyer, emerging as a US Senator to now being VP of the nation, her story is able to demonstrate the various barriers she has broken that have led to her massive achievements in politics.

Debate is also a similar field where women leaders have taken charge. Take for example, Greta Thunberg, who at just 16 years of age was able to become a global symbol for climate activism and founding a movement known as the “Fridays for Future” in 2018. Despite having her fair share of personal issues like being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Greta worked towards solving the world’s issues like climate change. "Being different is a superpower”, Greta says. This story serves as empowerment to the various girls across the world that struggle to find their place in a society full of norms. In addition, let this story encourage you to give back to the community and come up with innovative ideas to solve the world as a unit.

All-in-all, the various tales that each of these women tell us should serve as an instruction for the future generations to embrace and ponder over for advancement to come. Women leaders in these fields have been able to break multiple foundational barriers such as gender, race and age discriminations in the name of passion and resilience; So what is stopping you? That is the question we must ask ourselves in order for change to come to live, in order for new technologies and concepts to emerge for the betterment of everyone.
