Goal Setting in the New Year

As the new year has come around, as well as a new semester for students, many look to New Years resolutions as a way for them to set goals and improve themselves in the coming year. However, it is easy to give up on these resolutions throughout the year, and many get discouraged when they change their habits yet don’t see results as quickly as I hoped. This is why I believe that rather than New Years resolutions, we should be setting quarterly goals this year.

What are quarterly goals

In simple terms, a “quarter” is a three-month time period (one quarter of a year is three months). For example, most businesses use quarters to track financial results, employee satisfaction, future projections, risk assessment, and other measures of success for companies. This makes it easier and more accurate to track a company’s progress and future success.

Why they are more effective

Obviously, humans are not businesses and we are worth so much more than our accomplishments. That said, setting goals at the beginning of every three month period throughout the year is a way that we can set much more sustainable, realistic, and achievable for the future.
